Overview and Background
WHAT
WHAT IS GOING ON? The city of Centerton is developing a Masterplan to enhance and revitalize the existing downtown area and to guide growth in a proposed New Town Center, south of Centerton Blvd.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Partnered with ULI NWA (NWA Chapter of the Urban Land Institute), the City is working with planning and engineering consultants on this effort. Guided by existing conditions, projected growth, stakeholder conversations, and public engagement, the Downtown Masterplan is being developed during 2025-2026.
WHAT IS IT? The Centerton Downtown Masterplan builds on past city milestones and focuses specifically on the historic downtown as well as a 830-acre area south of Centerton Blvd, referred to as New Town Center. Developed through a multi-disciplinary process with stakeholders and community members, the Downtown Masterplan is being developed as a resource to inform how the downtown and New Town Center areas grow and develop.
WHY
To develop a vision and development resources for a New Town Center (south of Centerton Blvd), coordinating with major landowners to plan to provide:
- Mixed-uses
- Appropriate infrastructure
- Public spaces
- Walkable, connected development
To support revitalization and increased economic activity in Centerton's historic downtown focusing on:
- Adaptive reuse (reusing and revitalizing existing/historic buildings)
- Placemaking (building and creating welcoming spaces that increase the city's local identity)
- Floodplain-sensitive development / improvements
- Infrastructure strategy (considering water/sewer, stormwater, transportation, etc.)
To strengthen connectivity between the existing Downtown and New Town Center through physical, visual, and cultural strategies including trails, crossings, streetscapes, and storytelling.
